No idea, I use DOpus not DefIcons. But ISTR that datatypes were an
option for recognition.

That's easy, you add a "Match DT Group" and/or "Match DT ID". If you use
the same viewer for most picture types, match on the group "pict". If
you want to use a different viewer for the odd image type, set up a more
specific filetype with a higher priority.
